We are 1 of the 4650 species of mammals. We have hair, mammary glands and give birth to live young, as most mammals do.

We are 1 of 52,500 species of vertebrates. We have a backbone to protect our spinal cord, like all other vertebrates.

We are 1 of the 1,318,000 species of animals. We breathe air and rely directly or indirectly on plants for food like all other animals.

Humans are 1 of the 1,750,000 species on the tree of life. We are but one leaf on the Tree.

Yet, with a population of over six billion, humans have the greatest impact on the Tree of life. ” - Rochelle Strauss.

All species are one of a kind. They each have a right to live. When you impact nature negatively it does not help nature. Humans are nature. If we see this, we treat nature with respect.

When ever you do something negative to nature like cutting down a half an acre of trees, it can destroy our environment. Trees take in the bad air and let us have good air.

We can plant trees, flowers, anything as long as its not poisonous or toxious, to make sure we help our planet and the planet’s environments.

Conserve Habitats

Make space for our wildlife by building smaller homes. You use less natural resources and provide more space to be used by other species.

Cut down less trees so animals have more habitat. We need to protect areas. We need to protect areas because although it may not seem like it, the environment creates homes for other animals not just us.

Replant native trees. We should do this because trees help provide area for birds to nest and trees help the air because they take in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen.

Make small native reserves around out homes instead of lawns. This provides new homes for the native species.

Don’t use pesticides on your lawns, or in your house.

Buy organic. We should buy organic foods because they are made with no pesticides and they are healthier for our bodies and the environment.

Buy local. If we buy a product from Vermont (if that is where you live), we don’t have to ship it rather buying something from California or South America. And, if we buy local, we can easily understand how the products are made.

Recycle / Reuse / and Reduce

Public Transportation: It is important because using cars pollutes a lot more than a mid sized network of public trains.

Turn off your appliances so you don’t waste electricity and so you can save money. If you plug your cell phone charger into the wall and your cell phone is on that charger make sure you unplug the phone charger when you take your cell phone off.

Turn down your heat in your home when it is not needed like when you are asleep or not there. Think of a temperature and remember it, plug it into your thermostat like if it is the day, change the temperature to make it as low as you can and still be comfortable.

Turn off the water. Turn it off when you are not using it because you save water. For example, if you are brushing your teeth, shut off the water while you are actually brushing.

Bring your own canvas grocery bags to the store. Lets say you want mushrooms. Rather than having to use a plastic bag from the store you can use your own that you bring with you. When you use your own, you don’t have to use the store’s bags. If you forget your bags and have to use the store bags, reuse and recycle them at home.

Recycle toys / books and games by giving them to hospitals, daycares, friends, doctor’s office, and homeless shelters.

How can I personally Help?

We can tell our family an friends about Threatened species because we want other people to help. We want not just one person making a difference, but others that could potentially build to thousands and millions of people!

Write our own environmental newspaper because it helps get the word out about how the environment needs help.

Change the way I act towards the environment and other creatures and learn to work cooperatively with others.

At one time there were over 1 million Chimpanzees in Africa. Now there are only an estimated 150,000 to 235,000 Chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are now endangered because of loss of habitat due to making farmland and logging and poachers taking them to sell and hunters hunting for their meat.

Chimpanzees live in 21 African countries. They like a habitat this is made up of dense tropical rainforest but can also be found in woodlands, bamboo forest, swamps and even some open savannahs and grassland areas.

Chimpanzees are about 4 feet tall. Males weigh between 90 and 120 pounds and females weigh between 60 and 110 pounds. Chimpanzees rarely live past the age of 50 in the wild but have been known to live the age of 60 in captivity.

Chimpanzees are omnivores. Omnivores eat a wide variety of foods that include fruits, nuts, seeds and insects. Chimpanzees sometimes hunt and eat meat.

I became interested in the Chimpanzee when my sister saved one in my name through the World Wildlife Federation and now I have learned so much about them. If I told my sister she would be so happy because saving one Chimpanzee or even two Chimpanzees can change the world.

People don’t realize how important a Chimpanzee is. They help us so much. They are very useful. People should stop hunting them. Chimpanzees are similar to you and me and very intelligent. Please, if you can, help me save the Chimpanzees. Jane Goodall is a very important person. She has been helping the Chimpanzees for a long time and teaching people of their importance in this world. The following is the response she gave to a reporter when asked why we should save the Chimpanzee.
“ It’s a question that everybody asks, why should we bother to save chimpanzees or whales, or why should we bother to save redwoods? But the thing is that we are increasingly finding, as the old people in the old days knew, that everything is interconnected. And when you remove one piece of the puzzle, that little hole starts to spread until the entire puzzle may collapse. And the chimpanzees in their own forest play a very important role. You could almost call them gardeners. They trim trees and they carry their fruits long distances so that they help with the germination and the spacing of plants.”
